Operational Remote Sensing Programme of India started in the year 1988 with the launch of with IRS-1A in 1988. Since, then ISRO has launched many operational remote sensing satellites. From the earlier General Purpose Satellites like IRS-1A, 1B, 1C and 1D, ISRO moved to thematic series of satellites and currently, ISRO has following series of satellites.

Resourcesat Series:

  • The satellites in this series are primarily meant for Natural Resources Inventory, Monitoring applications in Land and Water.
  • Currently Resourcesat-2and Resourcesat-2A are in Orbit. They are unique satellites having multi-tier imaging capability from the same platform. Resourcesat-2/2A satellite has three cameras.
