NavIC – Navigation with Indian Constellation is the indigenous satellite based navigation system developed by ISRO. The system is fully operational and provides real time positioning and timing services across its service area. The primary service area defined as the Indian land mass and the area extending up to 1500 km from its geo political boundaries. The extended service area is between the primary service area and the rectangle formed by from Latitude 30 deg south to 50 deg north and Longitude 30 deg east to 130 deg east. The space segment of the NavIC consists of 7 satellites in the IRNSS series of satellites and will be soon expanded to 11 satellites. The space segment is supported with the necessary ground infrastructure for controlling and monitoring the whole system.
Antrix is continuously striving to promote and support the development of applications based on NavIC. One of the major steps taken is to make available the NavIC receiver modules to parties who are interested in developing NavIC based applications. Also Antrix promotes the various NavIC applications developed by ISRO among the user communities by collaborating with various government and non-government agencies.
The receiver is capable of using NavIC L5 signal to provide 3D navigation in a single compact SMD module. It has 28 tracking channels and could track all in‐view satellites. It is fully autonomous such that once power is applied, the receiver automatically searches, acquires and tracks satellite signals. When a sufficient number of satellites are tracked with valid measurements, the receiver produces 3D position and velocity outputs.
